Where the Singapura Comes From

Hal and Tommy Meadow presented the Singapura in the United States in the mid-1970s as a street cat of Singapore. A 1990 CFA investigation found that their foundation cats descended from animals Hal had shipped from the United States to Singapore, so the drain-cat origin story is at best incomplete. The Singapore Tourist Board adopted the cat as the Kucinta mascot regardless. Whatever the route, the ticked sepia coat and very small adult size were fixed from a tiny founding population.

Living With a Singapura

Everything about a Singapura is small except the level of involvement. They ride on shoulders, sit on keyboards, investigate every cupboard opened, and are underfoot constantly, which is a genuine trip hazard at their size. The voice is soft and used sparingly. Being tiny and short-coated, they seek heat and burrow into bedding, so warm spots matter more than they would for a bigger cat. Grooming is minimal, a weekly pass with a rubber mitt.
